Young painters in Boston will soon be able to earn college credits while they complete their vocational high school degrees through a new program funded by the painters’ union and painting companies, including Soep Painting Corp.

On Tuesday, February 13, the Painters and Allied Trades District Council 35 and the Painters and Glaziers Employers Association of New England were joined by Marty Walsh, community leaders and state and local officials to announce an exciting new partnership for students at Madison Park Technical Vocational High School. The innovative program, funded by a $125,000 donation provided by IUPAT DC35 and the Painters and Glaziers Employers Association of New England, will provide an avenue for students to obtain the necessary skills and training to jump start a lucrative career in the trades.

In an agreement, IUPAT DC35 also certified the curriculum at Madison Park as a pre-apprenticeship program, indicating that a portion of training hours will count towards completion of apprenticeship training. Additionally, IUPAT DC35 announced a new program that provides union members a pathway to free college while continuing their career in the trades.

At Soep we pride ourselves on a Highly Skilled/Highly Trained workforce and place a great amount of emphasis on apprenticeships and continuous training for all members of our team. This week, we’re very happy to announce a new partnership with the painters and glaziers unions that will strengthen our industry’s ties with vocational students in the City of Boston.

Soep Painting President, Matt Soep, was on-hand alongside the unions as they jointly announced the program and presented the check to the Madison Park School.
